Carmela and Joseph LaMura
My father told me years ago that this is Carmela (Lanzaro) LaMura (1869-1930), the wife of Catello LaMura (1867-1943) and the mother of Joseph LaMura (1888-1962),
pictured here with Carmela. At least, that's what my father told me. I seem to recall, however, that a few members of the LaMura family doubted this. If this really
is Carmela and Joseph, then the background appears to be in Brooklyn, not Italy. Joseph was born in Italy on January 2, 1888 and Catello, Carmela and Joseph arrived
in America in 1892, when Joseph would have been 4 1/2 years old. Then he would be 4 1/2 to 5 years of age when this photo was taken. Yes, I realize that "Joseph"
appears to be wearing a dress. Boys in the late 19th/early 20th Century wore dresses until they were around 5.
