CAUSES OF DEATH

Line

Salvatore Lanzaro
born February 2, 1875 in Castellammare di Stabia, Italy
died February 13, 1914 in Brooklyn, NY, age 39 years

Father: Giuseppe Lanzara (1836-1901)
Mother: Petronilla Bonifacio (1844-1934)

Cause of death: Lobar Pneumonia

Pneumonia is an inflammatory illness of the lungs. In this case it was one lung (lobar). Typical symptoms associated with pneumonia include cough, chest pain, fever, and difficulty in breathing. Salvatore's brother, Ciro Lanzaro, and Joseph LaMura owned a movie theater in Brooklyn called the Loew’s Bayridge. Salvatore worked there as a projectionist. On a very cold day in February, 1914, after working in the hot, sweaty projection room, Salvatore went outside in shirtsleeves to change the marquee. He subsequently caught pneumonia and died, according to his death certificate, on February 13, 1914, at the age of 39, 10 days before his son Joseph’s 9th birthday.
