Giuseppe Lanzara
born April 12, 1836 in Nocera Inferiore, Italy
died September 20, 1901 in Brooklyn, NY, age 56 years.

Father: Diodato Lanzara (1800-1864)
Mother: Mariarosa Auletta (1804-1893)

Cause of death: Asthma Cardiac Hypertrophy

Cardiac hypertrophy is a thickening of the heart muscle (myocardium) which results in a decrease in size of the chamber of the heart, including the left and right ventricles. A common cause of cardiac hypertrophy is high blood pressure (hypertension) and the stress on the heart as a result of the symptoms of severe diseases such as asthma. People with asthma experience symptoms when the airways tighten, inflame, or fill with mucus. Common asthma symptoms include: Coughing, especially at night; Wheezing; Shortness of breath; Chest tightness, pain, or pressure; Rapid heart rate.

Giuseppe died in his home at 147 Conover Street in Brooklyn, a four-family house that he shared with his wife Petronilla, their children Ciro, Salvatore, Carmela, Carmela's husband Catello LaMura, and Petronilla's sister Elizabeth and her children. Petronilla and Elizabeth were now both widows. This is the same home where the babies Annie and Catherine died a few years before.

Giuseppe was buried in an unmarked grave at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn.
