CAUSES OF DEATH

Line

Josephine Cucurullo Lanzaro
born January 20, 1893 in New York.
died April 5, 1943 at Unity Hospital in Brooklyn, NY, age 50 years.

Father: John Cucurullo
Mother: Concetta Maresca

Cause of death: Bronchial Pneumonia

Bronchopneumonia (Bronchial Pneumonia) is caused by bacteria invading the lungs, leading to inflammation of the bronchial tubes causing fluid to build up, thus reducing the amount of air that can be maintained in the lungs. The patient suffers from severe coughing and difficulty breathing. Other symptoms include chest pain, rapid breathing, and shortness of breath. Fever, sweats, a headache, and weakness are also usually present.

On her death certificate, Jospephine's cause of death is listed as "post-operative bronchial pneumonia." The week before her death, she was operated on for a fibroid uterus (a benign (non-cancerous) tumor in the uterus. A secondary contributory factor was chronic myocarditis (inflammation of the heart). Josephine was living with her husband, John Lanzaro, at 1129 40th Street in Brooklyn when she died. She was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn.
