Norry Family Photos

In the town of Fano, a seaport along the eastern coast of Italy on the Adriatic Sea, Cesare and Adelaide (Centoscudi) Nori had four children: Adolfo, Ida, Pasquale, and Giuseppina. In 1898. Adolpho left Fano, came to America, shortened his name to Adolph, and settled in Brooklyn. He married Concetta LaMura in 1909. In 1907, his sister Ida and his brother Pasquale arrived. They stayed in New York for two years, then made their way all across the country and settled in San Francisco where Pasquale changed his name to Charles Norry. In 1914, Adolph's mother Adelaide came to America with Adolph's other sister Giuseppina. Presumably, this was after the death of Adolph's father Cesare in Italy. Shortly after, Adelaide and Giuseppina joined Charles in San Francisco. Giuseppina became known as Josephine, and she and Ida adopted the Norry surname.

Adelaide and Charles

Charles and Rose Norry and their sons Laurence and Charlie

Charles Norry (1893-1969) was the younger brother of Adolph Nori (1880-1963). While Adolph settled in Brooklyn,
Charles, whose actual name was Pasquale Nori, went to San Francisco where he changed his name. In this photo,
courtesy his granddaughter Joan Norry, Charles is standing with his wife Rose (Basso) in front of their sons
Laurence (Joan's father) and Charlie.

Ida and Josephine Norry

On the back of the photograph, someone wrote "Ida & Pepini Norry. Pepini is a diminutive for Giuseppina, in this case, Josephine.

Ida, Adelaide, Josephine, Charles and two more

Ida and Josephine sitting next to their mother Adelaide. The tall guy behind Josephine is brother Charles. The other two guys are probably the husbands of Ida and Josephine. Josephine’s husband was John Maffucci who was 11 years older than her. He’s probably the one with the mustache. Ida had two husbands: August Domicilio, who she married in 1914, but he died in 1918. Her second husband was Sam Severini who she married in 1922.

Norry Family

On the back someone wrote "POP, IDA, SAM, TINA, LOUIE". Here's a guess on who is who. Standing in the back are Louie and Tina. Seated, left to right, is Sam, Ida, and Charles (Pop). Louie, born 1916, is the son of Ida and her first husband August Domicilio who died in 1918. Ida then married Sam Severini in 1922. Their daughter Tina was born in 1924.
