Lanzaro Brothers Soda Water Company

Last update 9/30/2025

Lanzaro Brothers Soda Water Company

Ciro Lanzaro (holding bottle) and the horse-drawn wagon he used to deliver soda. Although his brother Salvatore was a partner in the "Lanzaro Brothers Soda Water" company, he is not in this photo. My father was not able to identify anyone else in the photo. I would guess this is around 1904.

In September of 2025, I visited the eBay website and plugged in LANZARO
as I periodically do. Lo and behold!!! Up popped this photo of a bottle.

Lanzaro Brothers Soda Water Bottle

It was being offered for 29 dollars. Needless to say, I purchased it. In case you are having trouble reading it, it says LANZARO BROS. 80 HAMILTON AVE. BROOKLYN, NY. Now, compare this with the photo above it. Ciro appears to be holding the same bottle.

The following legal notice was placed in the New York Daily Star newspaper in 1904.

A few years later, Ciro partnered with his brother-in-law Catello LaMura in forming the Elk Bottling Works company, originally located at 590 President Street in Brooklyn, and later moved to 631 Hicks Street. Their specialties included Orange Phosphate and Dr. Cristo's Celery Tonic. By this time, Ciro was using Eugene as his first name. Like the business with Salvatore, this was in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn.
