Cause of death: Progressive Muscular Atrophy

In 1947, Lawrence and Rose were still living at 49 Gerard Avenue in Oak Shades when Lawrence became ill and died on April 23, 1947. The cause of death was listed as "progressive muscular atrophy causing bulbar paralysis". Basically, this was an impairment of the function of the cranial nerves caused by the development of lesions outside the brainstem. It is related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. Lawrence was 64 years old. He was buried in the family plot at Saint Joseph's Cemetery.
