Cause of death: Myocarditis

Myocarditis is an inflammation of the heart muscle (myocardium). It resembles a heart attack but coronary arteries are not blocked. It is most often due to infection by common viruses.

The consequences of myocarditis vary widely. It can cause a mild disease without any symptoms that resolves itself, or it may cause chest pain, heart failure, or sudden death.

William had been very sick for nearly a year. There were contributory causes that compounded his debilitating condition, including chronic bronchitis and "cysto-rectal fistula". He died at his home in Morganville, a few months after his son Art's marriage to Carmela "Babe" LaMura. He was buried at Old Tennent Cemetery in Tennent, NJ.
