CAUSES OF DEATHborn September 23, 1914 in Brooklyn, NY died September 28, 1920 at 351 Degraw Street in Brooklyn, NY, age 6 years Father: Vito Desiano (1885-19590) Mother: Maria Lanzaro (1888-1958) Cause of death: Acute Nephritis Nephritis is an inflammation of the tissues of the kidney. It is caused by a wide variety of factors. The disease is frequently associated with a slow, progressive loss of kidney function. People who live in damp, poorly ventilated apartments, may be subject to the disease. I have no way of knowing what conditions may have led to Grace's illness. Acute means it was sudden and of short duration. The doctor noted on her death certificate that he had been treating her for 4 weeks. He listed Endocarditis and Pulmonary Edema as contributory factors in her death. Endocarditis is an inflammation of the thin membrane that lines the interior of the heart. Pulmonary edema is an excessive accumulation of fluid in the tissue spaces in the lungs. Grace died in her home at 351 Degraw Street in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn. She was buried at Holy Cross Cemetery in Brooklyn. |
