89 East 2nd Street
Tax Photo Circa 1940
This was where the Desiano family was living in 1940. There were two small apartments here. Vito and Mary, and nine of their children, plus Mary's 86-year-old mother Elizabeth Lanzaro, rented one of the apartments for $28 per month. Note the For Sale sign.
Between 1939 and 1941, New York City photographed every building in the five boroughs for tax purposes. This photo of the building at 89 East 2nd Street is from that collection.
Original photo has been enhanced and colorized.
