135 Conover Street
Tax Photo Circa 1940
This was the home of Giuseppe and Petronilla and their sons Ciro and Salvatore in 1900. They lived in a small apartment above the store,
sharing the building with several other Italian immigrant families, altogether 23 people.
This was in the Red Hook section of Brooklyn. Although this photo was taken 40 years later, it's hard to imagine all those people living
together in one building.
Between 1939 and 1941, New York City photographed every building in the five boroughs for tax purposes. This photo of the building at 135 Conover Street is
from that collection.
Original photo has been enhanced and colorized.
