Lorenzo (Lawrence) Durante Death Certificate
In 1947, Lawrence and Rose were still living at 49 Gerard Avenue in Oak Shades when Lawrence became ill and died on April 23, 1947.
The cause of death was listed as "progressive muscular atrophy causing bulbar paralysis".
Basically, this was an impairment of the function of the cranial nerves caused by the development of lesions outside the brainstem.
It is related to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), also known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
The certificate says he was born September 28, 1885 and was 61 when he died. This conflicts with his obituary which says he was 64;
his WW1 draft registration says he was born in 1883; and his WW2 draft registration says 1882.
He was buried in the family plot at Saint Joseph's Cemetery where the headstone says 1882.
