Charles, whose birth name was Casimir, was an ethnic Pole born in Russia on December 1, 1910, the son of Ludwick Wichowski and Josephine Kuligowski.
The Wichowski family arrived from Russia in 1913 and settled in Perth Amboy along with many other Polish immigrants. Before marrying Helen, Charles was previously married and divorced.
